Clinical Laboratory

Currently, the laboratory offers internship positions in Clinical Analysis for undergraduate students from partner institutions, such as the Faculty of Pharmacy (360 hours) and the Medical Biological Sciences Department (540 hours) at UFRJ, resulting in significant demand for internships from students at these and other departments. In addition to the aforementioned internships, the laboratory facilitates the development of various practical classes for undergraduate teaching, either by promoting visits and demonstrations of different diagnostic techniques or by providing materials for use in undergraduate activities.

The technical training of students during their internships enables the development of outreach activities, since they have direct contact with the external community, patients, and healthcare professionals. This fosters a mutual exchange of knowledge between society and the university, which is reflected in the comprehensive training of undergraduate students and the entire team involved, ensuring dialogical interaction. The integration of knowledge from different technical areas and contact with the external community consolidates the students' theoretical knowledge and broadens their understanding of the pathologies evaluated during the internship, generating a fundamental impact on their training. The activities carried out at LACFar by students and staff already demonstrate the close integration between teaching, research, and outreach, the latter being consolidated in the scientific dissemination project "Analyzing Blood to Improve Quality of Life!".

During routine laboratory work, the development of research and innovation projects in the area of hemoglobinopathies became natural, due to the exclusive and specialized nature of LACFar's diagnostic approach to this group of pathologies. This expanded its contribution to the scientific and diagnostic fields, as well as its extensive collaboration with different research projects from various institutes within this university, ensuring the generation of knowledge. Today, this also includes the area of diagnostic innovation through projects for the development of new methodologies. In addition to the area of Clinical Analysis, LACFar cooperates with other research projects, providing personalized service to meet the specific demands of each study under development, focusing on Clinical Analysis. These projects are duly registered with the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) and are carried out within the standards of quality and specialized technical knowledge.
