Pharmaceutical Bioassays Laboratory (LaBioFar)

The LaBioFar laboratory conducts research involving different cell cultures. It currently has four main research lines: 1 – Development of neural models in vitro 1. For the study of neurodevelopmental disorders; 2. Development of biomaterials and biopharmaceuticals for the field of dentistry; 3. Development of formulations based on essential oils with antibacterial action for the treatment of bovine mastitis; 4. Biological, biopharmaceutical and toxicity profile evaluation of molecules with therapeutic potential in in vitro bioassays.

LaBioFar has a structure that allows for cell culture with a Biological Safety Cabinet in an isolated environment, free from contamination through ultraviolet sterilization; a liquid nitrogen biorepository for freezing cells; an optical microscope for visualizing and counting cell cultures; a fluorescence microscope; a digital microscope for precise visualization of cell cultures; refrigerators and freezers for storing reagents and culture media; a fume hood for handling chemical materials; a precision balance for weighing reagents; an ELISA reader for immunological and cytotoxicity assays; workbenches for conducting laboratory tests; and computers for conducting literature research and presenting seminars.
